About Domain Name Registration

Do You Need a Domain Name for your web site?

You can register your domain right now for a low annual fee. Check now for domain availability and see today's discounted price at my portal.

Already registered with a higher priced registrar and want to shift to my lower priced service? Simply open a new account (free) and initiate a transfer. Registrations, transfers, support and administration of your account is hassle-free, unlike many other registrars who often overcharge you or make life difficult if you want to move away from them or their services.  (I would be pleased to initiate this transaction for you free of charge if you need assistance.)

Are You Prepared if the Webmaster dies?

You should have the domain in your own private registrar account, NOT in your webmaster's private account to which you have no access. I've seen too many cases where a domain owner has been abandoned by a service provider or third party person and was subsequently unable to access or claim his own domain name due to lack of log-in I.D. and password! Even worse, the domain was never registered to the real owner who would later end up paying a ransom for use of it. If your designer or other party set it up for you, change the password right away. They won't need it for any reason other than to point your domain to a new host (which you can do yourself). Access also gives the party the ability to forward your domain to any other domain they desire, instead of yours or even render your site useless. That is relinquishing a bit too much control to someone outside of your business. Log into your account, update the contact information email and billing etc. to be sent to you or people you trust. Change your password. Protect yourself. Keep your email and mailing info current, otherwise you could miss out on important notifications on your account.

TIP: When selecting a name for your web site, use a search-friendly key word or phrase within it. Always select the .com extension if available. Purchasing other variations (.net, .org, .biz, etc) is not necessary, however, some people choose to purchase these registrations in order to prevent competitors from using those domain names to direct traffic to their own sites. At less than $10 each, you might as well grab them, too.

Example: johnsmith.com tells the search engines (and us) absolutely nothing about the web site, its content, or services. However, www.johnsmithpaving.com tells us and the search engines a bit more because the VERY relevant term, "paving" is included in the domain name.

Be aware that you do not own your domain name; rather, you purchase the registration for the right to use it exclusively for a one or more years. (Similar to the registration for your vehicle held at the department of motor vehicles registrar.)

You can also purchase a domain registration from another party willing to sell it to you. It can be transferred to you. (Use only a reputable transfer agent!)

TIP: Mark your calendar! Timely renewal is important! Don't have a host yet? Simply register the domain, then "park" your domain during checkout (it defaults to "parked" if you don't have a host (name servers) to yet designate.)
